The bars possess good resistance to coarsening at high temperatures. The carburizing resistance and combustion resistance altogether make the material suitable for some harsh applications. There are other varieties of the Haynes series. The Haynes 188 Rod is a cobalt nickel tungsten alloy with 39% cobalt, 22% nickel, 22% chromium and 14% tungsten.  It has very high tensile and yield strength even at elevated temperatures. At room temperature the minimum yield strength is 483MPa and the minimum tensile strength is 991MPa

Another variation Haynes 25 Flat Bar has 51% cobalt, 10% nickel, 20% chromium and 15% tungsten. It has 476MPa minimum yield strength and 996MPa minimum tensile strength at room temperatures. The corrosion resistance is different according to the composition of the Haynes grades of materials. The Haynes 230 Welding Rod has nickel, chromium, iron, molybdenum, lanthanum, aluminum, carbon, manganese, silicon, boron, cobalt and tungsten in the composition. It has a melting range of 1301 to 1371 degrees Celsius. Due to the high mechanical properties and high operating temperatures, the material is used in various applications. There are different finishes to the bars such as the Haynes UNS R30605 Bright Bar, black bar and polished bars. The applications include high temperature bellows, thermocouple protection tubes, strand annealing tubes, industrial furnace fixtures and in nitric acid catalyst grids.
